Lime in Forestry
A number of carbonated limes, quicklimes and mixed limes are used in agriculture. In forestry, lime is used to combat the effects of acid rain and stabilise pH values. Natural processes and the, at times, intensive cultivation of agricultural land lead to the continuous release of acids in the soil. If these acids are not neutralised, a spiral of acidification begins: the base and calcium saturation decreases, the nutrient ratios become unbalanced, the pH value drops and the soil loses its fertility.

Lime in Agriculture
Lime is an indispensable nutrient in agriculture. It supplies the soil with calcium and magnesium. Lime neutralises harmful acids and promotes humus regeneration. Plants extract lime from the soil as they grow, so it must be replenished on a regular basis. Lime improves the physical properties of the topsoil: it loosens the soil and prevents the surface from silting up and forming a hard crust after heavy rains. Liming has been part of agricultural practise since the 18th century and is an ecologically sound method for improving fertility.
Lime in Livestock Farming
Due to its large inner surface area, bedding lime is very effective in binding moisture and odours, thus creating a pleasant and dry climate inside the stalls.
As straw-lime bedding: bedding limes are usually mixed with straw and water in the feed mixer.
Manure lime is blown directly into the liquid manure, turning it into a complete fertilizer.
