Using lime in civil engineering
Lime is becoming an increasingly important material in civil engineering: lime and lime/cement compounds, which offer crucial technical, economic and ecological advantages, are used both in soil solidification and soil stabilisation. Adding lime to bitumen improves the durability of asphalt courses. Using lime/cement compounds to stabilise the base course under traffic areas and buildings eliminates the need to replace the existing substrates. As a result, it is no longer necessary to remove, transport or dispose of unsuitable material or to deliver suitable aggregates (crushed stone, gravel). This saves time and costs, and it also has a significantly positive economic effect.
